Joanna Baker

" Nothing is more satisfying to me than seeing individuals and families thrive. I believe this is accomplished through the application of sound, strengths-based principles of mental, emotional, physical, relational, and spiritual health. My belief in the power of a positive, whole-being approach stems from witnessing its effectiveness in a breadth of settings including mental health settings, hospice, corrections systems, school-based counseling, and grief work."

Joanna received her Master of Social Work from the University of New England, and BS from Brigham Young University in Marriage, Family, and Human Development. She began her clinical work in January 2017, and has thoroughly enjoyed working with the Riverwoods team since 2019.

As an LCSW, Joanna’s scope of practice includes anxiety, ADHD, couple’s work, toxic perfectionism, grief, intrusive thoughts, divorce & coparenting, scrupulosity, bipolar disorder, and depression. Her approach is informed by the rich principles of positive psychology. She believes in the value of struggle – or “productive pain” – and finds deep joy in working with individuals towards overcoming & flourishing!

Joanna treasures time with her family, loves to cook and hike, loves fuzzy socks, and loves the smells of orange peel and freshly-cut grass.

"Joanna has been a fantastic therapist. Though only seeing her a few times, I have seen that she deeply cares for her patients. I have never felt someone advocate for me as she has. She has lead me to believe that no matter what I have to say, she will hear it without judgement. I look forward to continuing our progress together."

"Joanna -I am so happy to be writing a recommendation for  Joanna. I sought her out to help me with going through a divorce and trauma and not being able to trust anyone. It says a lot when I feel like I can trust her and that’s the reason I went to see her in the first place! She not only Is willing to share personal experiences, but is highly intelligent and continues to educate herself regarding the latest therapeutic developments. I have seen several therapist throughout my many years… And she is only one of two therapists that I would ever recommend to someone else. I’ve only been seeing her for a few months and I feel that I have already been by helped with my emotional well-being."

Joanna is the best. So helpful and I feel like I’m on the road to recovery. She’s very knowledgeable and a great listener. It took a lot of courage to see a therapist after struggling for about three years but I’m so glad I decided to start therapy!
